Appointment of Scottish Veterans Commissioner

Scottish Ministers recently appointed the first Veterans Commissioner in the UK. This post has been established with the specific aim of improving outcomes for all veterans across Scotland. The Commissioner will examine the quality and availability of support services to ex-service personnel in Scotland, investigate the impact of government policies and provide impartial advice to Ministers and others who serve the veterans' community. Ministers have also tasked the Commissioner with engaging widely with veterans, obtaining a clear view of their needs and promoting them as valued and valuable members of Scottish society.

Although answerable to Ministers, the Commissioner will be operationally independent of the Scottish Government and has the freedom to investigate the impact of policies on the provision of public services wherever they affect our ex-servicemen and women...

First Minister, Alex Salmond MSP, announced the appointment of Eric Fraser as Veterans Commissioner during Armed Forces Day on 28 June. Mr Fraser took up his post on 25 August 2014 and now works from Victoria Quay, Edinburgh with a small staff.
