canstockphoto25616243optTime is running out to register to vote ahead of the referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union on 23 June. The deadline to register is midnight on Tuesday 7 June.

Since the launch of the Electoral Commission’s public awareness campaign on 15 May, over 1.35 million people in England, Wales and Scotland have already applied online to register to vote.

Applications facts and figures

  • The day with the biggest number of online applications to register so far has been Friday 3 June with 186,255.
  • Under 25 and 25-34 year olds have consistently been the age groups making the most applications to register, with 763,183 since 15 May.
  • Over 485,000 applications to register were made on the day of the deadline ahead of the General Election in May 2015.
  • Tens of thousands of people applied to register the day after the deadline to register for the General Election and were too late to have their say.
