Interested in joining the British armed forces?

We are sometimes asked about the possibility of people who are not British citizens joining the British armed forces. We are very grateful for such interest.

BAFF is completely independent of the Ministry of Defence, so we cannot give an official answer.

However, we understand the position is that in order to be eligible to join the United Kingdom armed forces, an individual must be a citizen of the United Kingdom, another Commonwealth country or territory, or Ireland.

The only qualifying EU member countries outside the UK would therefore be Cyprus, Ireland and Malta.

Welcome to British Armed Forces Federation - BAFF - independent all-ranks staff association for members of any branch of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army and Royal Air Force, including the reserves. All current UK service personnel of any rank are eligible to join and, as BAFF is not a political organisation, to take an active part in its activities if they wish. Former regular or reserve forces personnel are also very welcome.
