Use of cookies

By making any use of the site you accept and agree to our cookie policy, which by default allows cookies (small text files) to be set in your browser to assist your use of the site and help us to improve its usability. You can accept or decline cookies by changing the settings on your own computer or other device.

The help function of your browser should have information on how to enable, disable or delete cookies. The website also explains how you can delete and control the cookies that are stored on your device.

The BAFF website may use the following kinds of cookie:

  1. 'Necessary cookies', which are needed in order to carry out functions like registration and subscription.
  2. 'Performance cookies' which help us to manage the website and improve the service to site users. We may use on-site analytical tools or external analytical tools such as Google Analytics. Such analytical tools may use cookies to collect standard internet log information and visitor behaviour information in an anonymous form. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including the IP address of the device you are using) is transmitted to Google. This information may then be used to evaluate visitors' use of the website and to provide us with statistical reports on website activity in order to improve the website.
  3. 'Functional cookies' which enable the website to remember a user's choice, etc.

This website does NOT use 'Targeting/Advertising cookies' that track a user after they have left a website and enable targeted advertising.

Please read on for more privacy-related information, and for the general conditions governing your use of this website.

This website and your use of it is governed by the laws of England and Wales. In accessing this website you agree that any dispute about its use will be determined only by the courts of England and Wales. Please note that this privacy and data protection statement does not create any contractual or other legal rights on the part of the user.

Without departing from these general principles we may make detailed changes to this policy at any time by updating this page, and we therefore recommend you check this page from time to time to ensure you are aware of the current policy. Your continued use of any part or feature of our website, following the posting of any changes, indicates your acceptance of such changes.

BAFF (2006) Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner as a data controller, under its Company name BAFF (2006) Ltd and its operating name 'British Armed Forces Federation'.

Use of forms

BAFF is committed to protecting your privacy. We will not sell, share or otherwise misuse your email address. We will not make any use of any data obtained via our web contact form except to deal with your message.

When a form is submitted the IP address (a unique number containing no personal information) of the sending computer may be automatically logged as a measure against spam or abuse.

Email mailing lists

We maintain email mailing lists for the purpose of communication with our registered users. Any such lists will not include any data relating to you other than your email address, and can be unsubscribed from whenever you like, independently of your main registration as a BAFF member or supporter.

Personal data relating to members and other users

Online. Various precautions have been taken to protect personal data relating to anyone registered on this website. No such data is retained on any online database, except for the minimal largely-anonymised information you provide in order to register on the site, or any additional information which you choose to add to your profile. Your profile is not in any case available to anyone else except our membership administrators.

Offline. We minimise the retention of personal data relating to any member apart from their membership application data and any necessary records relating to their subscription. Copies of communications between BAFF and any member or former member may be retained for a reasonable period subject to the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998.

Any personal data relating to BAFF Supporters is subject to the same principles but in most cases will only comprise the minimal information entered by you on the site. BAFF Military Supporter registration is anonymous, and specifically designed to provide BAFF with generic statistical information while protecting your privacy as an individual.

If you wish to know about personal data about yourself held by BAFF, you are legally entitled under the Data Protection Act to send us a "Subject Access Request" which as a data controller we are obliged to deal with in accordance with the Act.

Your request does not need to be in any particular form, and you do not have to give any reason for asking (although it may help us to identify the desired information). Please quote "DATA PROTECTION ACT -  SUBJECT ACCESS REQUEST" and send your request in writing, being as specific as possible about the information which you require and stating (for identity verification purposes) your full name, postal address, service number and BAFF membership number, email address and/or contact telephone number in case of any query, along with payment for £10 payable to "BAFF (2006) Ltd", to the following address:

BAFF (2006) Ltd, 1st Floor, 11 Church St, MELKSHAM, Wiltshire SN12 6LS

As a member you can also ask us for a general indication of the nature of any personal information which we hold about you, in which case we may at our discretion be able to give you an informal general indication free of charge without doing a detailed search or supplying copies. You can then still submit a Subject Access Request if you wish.

The regulatory authority for Data Protection matters is the Information Commissioner's Office, about whom full information and contact details can be found on their website at this address:
