The Ministry of Defence has said it is ready to agree a settlement with hundreds of traumatised veterans after a nine-year fight over the anti-malaria drug Lariam.

Lariam, which many personnel were ordered to take, or without informed consent, has caused hallucinations, nightmares, mental breakdowns and suicides.

The class action by 450 former service personnel is one of the biggest to be brought against the MoD. The case is now at risk of collapsing, however, because the campaigning law firm bringing it faces bankruptcy, which is blamed on MoD 'stonewalling'.
