The Sun reports that a soldier has been convicted at court martial after sending pictures to his (RAF) girlfriend from a secret mission.

According to the paper, "The trooper, known only as Soldier A, took his personal phone on covert ops and had pictures of secret bases, prisoners of war and enemy fighters slain by his comrades."

He was sentenced to eight months’ service detention for negligence in his performance of duty and five months’ service detention for disclosure of information useful to the enemy, to run concurrently.

The sentence is therefore well within the 2-year maximum time limit to be served at MCTC, without having to be transferred to the civilian prison system.

The Sun's report includes quotes from Judge Jane England's sentencing remarks. Since 2025 it has been policy to publish transcripts of court martial sentencing remarks on the GOV.UK website. In this case we would expect a suitably redacted transcript to be published accordingly, but with the case apparently having concluded very recently, a transcript has yet to appear at the time of writing.
