The Northern Ireland Secretary has told The Independent that the Government's promised amendments to the controversial Troubles Bill will be brought to parliament on Monday (12 October).
BAFF understands that this will involve in effect publication by laying the amendments before parliament. MPs on all sides will require time to consider the amendments ahead of debate.
Sir Chris Bryant has been in post as Northern Ireland Secretary for about four months. He told The Independent that a “big package of amendments” would answer “every one of the key questions that people have asked us for”.
“We’re trying to make sure it is a fair process for everybody,” he added;
“What we are going to say in the bill is that there is no equivalence between the lawful action of brave British security forces and the deliberate acts of terrorists.”
